Armstrong Design Envelope pump with integrated intelligent controls
Signature technology

Design Envelope

Design Envelope replaces mechanical components with electronics and software intelligence. The pump can be downsized at selection, runs at its best across part load, and carries its own controls instead of a wall-mounted drive.

  • No wall-mounted drive. Controls sit on the pump, so the wiring, the enclosure and the separate transformer all leave the installation.
  • Parallel Sensorless Pump Control. Stages pumps on operating efficiency rather than motor speed, improving the efficiency of a multi-pump array by up to 30%.
  • Flow read without a meter. Sensorless flow monitoring to within ±5%, with operating data and notifications for diagnostics and service.
  • Outdoor capable to 125 hp with no enclosure required, under a three-year warranty covering the controls and the pump together.
Design Envelope and conventional pumps

Pumps

Vertical in-line, horizontal end-suction, split-case and multistage. Design Envelope units carry their intelligent controls on board, so there is no wall-mounted drive, no separate transformer and no differential-pressure sensor to wire.

Armstrong Design Envelope Tango twin pump
Worked example

Two pumps, one pipe drop

A Tango twin replaces a conventional duty/standby pair. Measured against a standard end-suction horizontal duty/standby configuration, the difference on a single installation is not marginal.

Total pump weight811.9 kg → 86.6 kg  89% lighter
Installation weight1198.4 kg → 322.9 kg  73% lighter
Installation footprint1.12 m² → 0.46 m²  81% smaller
Five-year lifecycle costBetween 23% and 33% lower, depending on the redundancy configuration selected

Figures published by Armstrong Fluid Technology, comparing Design Envelope Tango against a standard end-suction horizontal duty/standby configuration. Actual results depend on duty, tariff and installation.

Beyond the equipment

Packaged systems and automation

Where a project needs more than components, Armstrong builds the plant room off site and Meptura connects it: modular plant rooms, central utility plants, intelligent fluid management systems and fire pump houses.

Armstrong packaged plant room

Packaged systemsModular plant rooms

Pre-fabricated chiller and boiler plants, pumping stations, energy transfer stations and fire pump houses. The maximum share of work is completed in the factory, so all that remains on site is the connection.
